The IEEE Standards Association has launched the Biodiversity-Safe Renewable Energy Industry Connections (IC26-001) initiative, aimed at aligning renewable energy development with biodiversity conservation. As renewable energy expansion accelerates globally, the initiative addresses its intersection with ecologically sensitive areas such as wetlands, grasslands, and wildlife corridors.
The working group is chaired by Dr. Meenakshi Singh, CEO of Sustaina Greens LLP. The initiative focuses on developing a science-based framework that integrates GIS, biodiversity modelling, and environmental governance to support nature-positive infrastructure planning.
Bringing together experts from across sectors—including energy, ecology, policy, and AI technology the group aims to produce guidance documents, white papers, and collaborative outputs. The effort emphasizes balancing climate goals with biodiversity protection, particularly in rapidly developing regions.
